Puerto de Tossa de Mare - 19 May

Tossa is an ancient coastal port with a fortified town dating back to the 12th Century. Unlike a lot of places, it has been beautifully resored and is a tourist's dream.

I suspect that in mid summer you would not be able to do it but I was able to anchor immediately off the beach in 4-5meters of water, beatifully sheltered from the SW wind.

At anchor off the Tossa beach
Really the ideal anchorage, the only boat there. Even I could have swum to the beach (but I hasten to say I did'nt - too bloody cold). A cold wind; two jersey weather. Walled city as seen from Walkaway
The colour of the houses and particularly the roofs made of half pipe tiles of yellow and a pale red brown is a delight.
The port is give over to one sport, feeding the tourists. They have chosen some delightful spots for their trade and as one wanders around, you get a constant mouth watering gut churning smell of fresh fish, oils (with which the Spainish drown everything), herbs and of course overpowering garlic. You can eat expensive - as here - or choose a back street and eat a set menue for about 12 Euro (£9). Have to say however Walkaway puts up good competition - I wander around looking and then try to emulate the cousine with some success (without the gallon of oil!). A local restaruant in Old Town
The weather forecast was not particularly good so, next morning weighed early and was underway by 0730 (not a spanish hour). By 0830 I had a Force 7 astern and with boomed out genoa only was making 7.5 knot. I have to say that the lazyjack system makes handling the main three times as easy.
