San Raphael
Vieux Port - 14 June 2003 |

There was not much protection in the anchorage at Les Issambres so we moved for an unusual night in port. On arrival, the harbour seemed official-less; where to go? As ever look for another yacht with human activity and that's a good place to start; the story was that the harbour was undergoing some building works and the Capitainerie was temporarily closed - a free night. San Raphael is a somewhat down market beach resort but not unpleasant with an unusual church. Most impressive though were the Harley Davidsons!!

The owner was an englishman who was happily polishing his gleaming machine and was more than happy to show it off to Helen. |

The 19th century eccentric novelist and wit discovered St-Raphael and invited all his friends to leave Paris and come and live here and the village became quite fashionable for a time. Karr is attributed with the famous phrase "plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose" a phrase that has been used internationally to describe political promises. |
