COLLIOURE - 24 MAY 2003

FRANCE!! What excitement. This is France's equivalent of Cadaques. Notice the difference. Here all the buildings were painted pastel colours rather reminscent of Tobermoray on the West Coast of Scotland.

This was an old fortified port and is a major tourist attraction. It is the last port in the Gulf de Lion with any height to it; to come as I move north is basically reclaimed low lands and all modern highrise. So enjoy this as it lasts. Arrived at 1030 with the NW forecast for 1500 so ashore quickly and what a delight.

Collioure
One of the many back streets with wonderful colours

Note delightful colour schemes in the narrow lanes.

Walkaway at a buoy, the only one in the harbour. I was later joined by 5 other local yachts. Walkaway at a buoy off the fort

Exactly as predicted the wind came in from the NW, the temperature dropped to three jersey weather and I moved promptly off to Por Vendres but 3 miles away to weather the coming storm.
