BLANES - 18 MAY 2003

Helen went by train to Blanes last summer to find a sailmaker to repair our main. Her reports were not that inspiring. Equally the AA book is remarkably rude but I suppose it does get a mention. I found it rather refreshing; not too touristic, certainly less money grabbing than a big city and much more a family port. People friendly and much cheaper!! It also had an excellent and friendly yach club wth good inexpensive grub.

Here is the port - Walkaway is to the rigth but not easy to see..

Blanes Marina
There is a hill behind Blanes with a small fort and chapple perched on the top. 25 minute hard climb but worth the effort when you get up top. Here I am looking back towards Barcelona and you can see the miles and miles of beach. From the castle above Blanes looking South
Blanes also boasts a Botanical Garden. The life work of a German (this part of Spain is almost overrun by Germans - they certainly outnumber the Brits) it was bequeathed to Blanes in the 1950s and has been developed beautifully. Cacti in the Blanes Botanical Gardens
Blan es Botanical Garden

Weather was fair however so up sticks and a downwind light air sail up the coast to Puerto de Tossa de Mar.
