Cala Yacca - 12 July and 14 July 2003

Cala Yacca is about 3nm from Stintino so easy to get to as a day or weekend beach anchorage and at the weekend it really fills up with local boats but overnight during the weekend it is remarkably empty for such a wonderful spot.

As you steam into the bay you note a clear line in the water between dark blue and creamy light blue water. You might think this was a cloud shaddow; a glance upwards dispells the myth. The bay stretches a mile or so across pure flat sand at exactly 3 meters depth; the echo sounder hardly wavers. The water is chrystal clear - I never saw it clearer and the beaches ashore are as good as you will find anywhere (if crowded during the summer months). The bay is so large that you can find seclusion even if every boat in Sardinia is there. As near yachtie heaven as you can find.

The creamy waters of the bay broken by light ripples. In the background one of the many fortified towers guarding the inter island channels.

Cala Yacca

Pelose Passage, not navigable by Yachts. Over the next island the Forneli Passage, which cuts off some 20nm passage if heading down the West Coast of Sardinia. Calm weather necessary.

Walkaway anchored off the entrance to Port Ancora.

Now time to fly home so back to Castelsardo and the bus to Alghero airport. Thats another story.
