Iles de Lerins - 11 June 2003

Les Iles de Lerins lie approximately half way between Antibes and St. Tropez with many great anchorages. Landing in a little harbour by dinghy, we walked across the island to find this fine castle and the present day abbey, both worthy attractions. The island is owned by the abbey and is totally unspoilt, much of it in production for the fiendishly fortified wine made by the monks - why is it that monks specialise in the production of strong alcohol?

The walk at the end of the day was excellent and we were delighted to see the seagull doing his business on the statue rather than Walkaway!
